As far as the relationship goes, Toucans can have as strong of a relationship with man or even in some cases stronger ones. Of course it depends on the personality of the toucan and also if he was captive bread or not. I'm not sure if they are as clever as parots are. In my experience, they certainly aren't less clever. Parrots can learn to open their own cage doors sometimes, toucans in my opinion can learn the same thing, but because of the way their beaks are, I dont think they can. But in my opinion toucans are as great as parrots are. I hope this helps.
