::Hi,
::
::My cock Eastern Rosella, Crichton died very suddenly on Christmas Day. Well, his partner Aeryn is very lonely, but I do not want to introduce another Rosella to her as she is very stong-willed, and if she didn't accept a baby cock she may possibly hurt him- he'd would be too young and small to defend himself. I do not want to get another adult cock either as I don't want her getting hurt by an overly aggressive cock- I have heard that some pairings do not work at all, with cocks sometimes killing their intended hens (?). Aeryn is too special to me to put her at risk like that. I just want to keep her as a pet now.
::
::Well I was thinking. I have been wanting to get another Lovebird ever since my last pair passed away. Would a Rosella and rambunctous Lovebird get on well together. You see, lovebirds are small, fast and very feisty and so could escape Aeryn if she ever got a bit grumpy (her hormones in the breeding season make her a bit jumpy, she is extremely peaceful at other times!) or even defend itself, though I don't think she'd ever harm it (she used to sleep with a Zebra Finch!). Before I got Aeryn and Crichton, they were living quite happily in an aviary of Budgies, Cockatiels and Finches, and never ever harmed any of them. So she is quite used to and docile in the company of other birds, plus a Lovebird has such a strong character that it could well cope with the 'ways' of Aeryn. She is not aggressive at all, just firm- she just had to look at Crichton sternly if he got overexcited and he would back off. Really she is very much like a strong-willed and stubborn top-ranking hen Budgie. Would this mixing work at all?
::
::They would be housed within a 3'x2' flight cage. I do know of an Eastern living quite happily with an Indian Ringneck Parakeet. Please let me know what you think.
::
::Thanks so much for your help and opinions,

:Samantha, it would depend on the lovie. Peachfaced are the most agressive of the lovies species. I have a blackmasked that I house with my budgies, only because he is extremely phobic and one of my budgie hens took him under her wing and mothered him. He was so bonded with Aida Marie (she made her bridge crossing since), that I felt comfortable putting him in the budgie flight cage. If any of the other budgies tried to pick on him, Aida Marie would kick their tails. No one was to touch Zorro. LOL!
:Since I don't have a big aviary, I am very wary of housing different species together, especially when there is a significant size difference.

hi, I keep a male rosella and male kakariki indoors in separate cages but they come out together every night. on the odd occasion when brian, the rosella, has got a bit cross with izzy, the little fellow has been able to sit on the curtain pole as its too high to allow headroom for the bigger bird. this would be an important safety valve if you were to try your two together- safe areas for the smaller bird. mine usually get on very well together and spats are very rare, but brian always tells me if izzy is up to no good! best of luck.
