Hi,
I live in New Zealand where Eastern and Crimson Rosella's are wild. In February, a friend found a wounded Eastern laying against the tracks of a railway line. She was near death.
Since I have an African Grey, I ended up with this bird. I handfed her until she was stronger and had her wits to start not wanting human contact, and also to learn that food comes in bowls.
She is now in the same room as my Grey after quarantine and she loves the company but she won't let me near her. I can't clean her cage and she panics when I get too close. Can't say I blame her since she is a wild bird. She can't go back to the wild because her wing is damaged and she can't fly.
We take our Grey out to the lounge with us for 10 hours, leaving her alone and she literally cries when we take the Grey out of the room.
We've decided she needs a friend and place them in a small (since she can't fly) outdoor aviary. I would like to get a tame Crimson to go with her but I'm not sure if I should get a male or a female or even if it matters. Maybe even another breed altogether? What other parrots would go nicely with and Eastern? Would the Eastern and Crimson live together happily?
