Also, I'm new to parrots as well though I've had Doves and Budgies in the past, but I've been doing a huge amount of reading. I notice that you mention having the parrot on your shoulder. From what I read in more than one place, this is not a good idea. Even a well-trained parrot can act out due to season, health and for various other reasons. Its one of those things where it only takes one time, and its not a good idea to have a bird beak and claws so close to eyes and ears.

Now, I've kept reptiles for 15 years and I know there are issues like this where some keepers disagree. I'm sure this one might be considered controversial. In the end its your choice, but now you can make an informed choice. :)
