Just checking out the Pionus forum. I've been a reptile keeper/collector/breeder for years and have used kingsnake.com for the past few. I've had Doves and parakeets in the past but we've recently gotten our first parrot, a Maximillian's Pionus.
Got a large birdcage from e-bay. Not sure on the quality of the cage. For example, its "white" but a little "pinkish." I got a cage with similar dimensions that sold for about $500 at Petco for $190 shipped. I mean, the cage seems to do the job. Anyone have any similar experience? How'd the cage hold up?
Our bird is a couple months old. Was hand fed from birth. Right now working on getting him/her use to us enough that he'll let us touch him, and then work on training of stepping up to our hands, etc. He defintely knows not to bite humans hard at all. He'll nip but never hard. More "exploring" it seems to me.
He's been with us just several days and already chilling out. I can tell he'll have a great personality. Shows off with one footed stands often and loves to hang upside down in the cage, etc. We're very excited!
