Dear Samantha
it seems too have been awile since you posted this message but I hope you get this.
I have had a japanese quail for about a year now as a house pet. she is a very tame pet and allows me to reach down and pet her as she walks by. as for houseing i keep her in a dog kennel that would hold a dog the size of a border collie.
she did crow in the morning and it is fairly loud
but i trained her not to with a spray of water whenever she did it, now the crowing is few and far between. i don't know about breeding but i will be working on it soon but if you want one just as a pet i would recomend a hen even though their life span is shorter. one thing i must stress is that they NEED to be let out to walk around and if you have any more questions please feel free to e-mail me as i have lots more info.
