I purchased a GQF hova-bator, with a fan and auto egg turner. The sales person at Cutler supply recommended I buy a incubator theremometer/hydrometer for $17. Everything I've read says that humidity can be more important than temperature, so I know I need to keep an eye on it.
The problem is that the hova-bator doesn't come with a hydrometer and I'm not sure how to install this one. The incubator is styrofoam, should I just poke a hole in the side and put the wick in the pan or will this skew my results?
Also, how do I increase the humidity or decrease it, the pan is full and it is at 95 degrees on the hydrometer which is right for pheasant eggs, but when I try to hatch duck eggs I will need to get it higher than that, how do I do this if I can't increase the surface area? Some people say you have to spray the duck eggs, but how often do you have to do this. I can find very little information about how to raise ducks (wood ducks for release). I sometimes have to go away for a few days and want to take the easiest approach to ensure I do this right.
Thanks for any information!
