My wife and I brought home a 4 month old female blue parrotlet from the North Oakland County Caged/Exotic Bird Show in Michigan on 10-06-02.We've named her "Pretty Penny".In just one week of love/tender care this bird has become a solid family member. We've given her an abundance of millet, spring salad and fresh fruit in her first days of acclamation to her new surroundings. Short periods of repeated cuddling/teaching with opportunities to explore our home seem to be working for the bird and us. We leave toys/classical music playing gently in our absence.Penny has adapted well to our 4 year old German Shepherd "Princess".We also own a male American Singer Canary which we call "Kato".A large tank of freshwater fish and an old cat named "Chelsea are located on the property.
We are new to parrotlet/parenting but not pets in general. We've searched the web, bought magazines, and purchased a few books. Any helpful tips to enhance our people/parrot relationship would be welcomed.
If there are some things to avoid, like foods that can endanger our lil' gal ..please let us know..thanks ..Mike/Kat Wrona
