Mark,They would make a fantastic companion animal but the current law forbids it. It is a real shame that in some areas they are actually hunted but can not be kept. One solution is to find someone working with one of the old world (Africa) species or you could do what I did and get another member of that family..Corvidae. I currently have a White throated magpie jay. They are large blue jays from Central and South America. She is my first bird and a real treat to have. She is quite pretty and very smart! Good luck.
