The nursing home here in town has a huge aviary they built and it has plexiglass. It is scratched looking and I don't think it took too long for it to get scratched. I think if you build something with a solid front you would want air circulation through it. Good luck with your bird search. I would visit any potential breeders and ask tons of questions. If they don't have time to answer your questions now they probably won't have time later on after your bird comes home.
