Hello, I am currently researching macaws. I had narrowed it down to either a blue and gold or a red front. If you do a search for macaw you will come up with a bunch of links. First thing to think about is how much time will you be spending with your bird every day? Macaws need lots of interaction. They are loud also. Have you ever had a bird before? They make nice sized macaw cages these days, and if you bought or built a play stand/area that your bird spent plenty of time on ever day you bird would be happy. Macaws are very destructive also, you need to provide plenty of toys and wood for them to chew up. Maybe someone else here can offer suggestions. If you are just set on macaws, there are mini macaws, I have narrowed my search down to the red front as everything I read says they are wonderful birds. Half the size of the large macaws but the "large" personality. Good luck!
:hi everyone. I usually post on the reptiles forums as i keep a few snakes and a water monitor lizard and this is my first time posting here.
:I was thinking of purchasing a macaw. I don't know much about them at the moment so I want to do all my research first. What i do know is that they live a very long time (I may have to pass them down to my children in my will). I know that they need companionship and a lot of interaction.
:Is there any good resources on the internet you can direct me to for more information?
:My wife and I both work so I was thinking that getting 2 would be better so they can keep each other company.
:What could be possible difficulties that we would have to overcome with a macaw? What kind of things should we take into consideration?
:I was thinking of constructing a large closet sized enclosure for them with a glass front because I would rather not put them in a cage.
:Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
:Thanks
