It's not clear to me wheher you're dealing with a Scarlet or Greenwing Macaw, but ti would help if you could share what background you know on this bird, as well as your own experience level with large parrots.
What you need to keep in mind right now is that this bird is most likely frightened and upset, ina new home, and dealing witha total stranger..you shoulnd't expect it to be relatign well to you at this point. I'd suggest you back off, offer favorite treats by hand from outside the cage, and just give the bird some space.
