:I have bred Cockatiels for years now. I am aware of health issues and egg binding etc... I would not go into breeding any type without info and knowledge. Yes the birds have been on a "diet" they are on vitamins and in wonderful health. They have been checked by my vet and she has given me the go ahead. I was tying to get everyone's input on the nesting material. As for genetics, I have no idea how that works. I just know that these are proven breeders that have not had a clutch of eggs in over 6mts. They were given a rest by the previous breeder. Thank you for your input, but in think I got sarcasm instead.

I'm sorry you feel I was being sarcastic, however, no where in your original post did you mention prior breeding experience or does it suggest that you had any knowledge of breeding. Unfortunately, I have run into too many folks that do not have any, or very little knowlege of breeding, so it is often a *safer* road to make sure first with the basics question of health, diet and such, particularly when the question starts "new to breeding". Please excuse the misunderstanding.
Some lovebird breeders I know, have provided willow, maple or apple twigs as additional nesting material, but they never said if it was actually used in the nest.
