A one day old baby that has died will look completely flat and there would be no mistaking it for a dead baby, as they turn a pale gray. Leave her alone, and don't be covering the cage. Lovebirds will not feed at night, and by covering the cage, you limit the feeding hours.
Female and male lovebirds will sometimes squabble over who gets to feed the baby. Its not really a fight. The male will always enter the nest when a new baby hatches to inspect it. The female will not want him there long.
You should also know that the parents roll the baby onto its back for feeding, so do not mistake a baby laying on its back for a dead baby.
Too much interference, and the birds may maim or kill the babies. A peek once a day is all that is needed.

:Our female pf lovebird Sally is a first time Mom. She laid 4 eggs of which
:one hatched yesterday. This morning when I went to check on them, the baby was
:not moving. Unfortunately, Sally is very aggressive and mean to her mate Pancho
:and tends to fight with him in the nesting box until he escapes and shoots out. Last
:night they did some of this before I covered their cage. I was afraid that they would hurt
:the baby but didn't remove it.

:Is there a chance that the baby has died since attempted to move it and see if it was alive and
:it didn't react? If this is the case, what should I do next? How long should I wait to remove it
:from the nesting box or will Sally just put it out? Also, what can I do to prevent this from
:happening to the other 3 eggs in case they also hatch babies.

:Please any help you can give would be very appreciated. This is really stressing me out.

:Thanks,

:B
