Congratulations on your first pet bird! I haven't had experience with lories, but my guess is he needs longer to settle in and get accustomed to his new surroundings.
Also, I assume you're trying to tame him. Watch to see what is going on when he bites. Perhaps there is a specific action you're doing that causes him to become afraid and bite to defend himself.

Just go slow, be patient, and let him learn to trust you.

:I am the proud new owner of a yellow-streaked lory, 6 months old. He is usually just a doll, but sometimes he bites pretty hard. Are there any methods to stop this "tantrum" behaviour besides time-outs? I am using time outs right now, and being new to this I would like to know about how long this might take. Are other methods better? This is my first pet bird and I have only had him for 2 weeks. I am used to handling wild birds as a rehabilitator such as crows, owls and falcons, but the methods we use with them are much different i.e. leather gloves, trying to keep the bird as wild as possible, etc. Also, does biting behaviour have any relevance to my, um, female cycle?
:Thanks,
:Tara H.
