i know this is kinda a late response,
but in case you're still interested...
my boyfriend and i have this red lory,
which was sold to us by a petco in LA,CA,
who claimed it was a chattering lory.
but he looks more like a blue-streaked lory.

if properly socialized,
they certainly do make great pets.
they are as playful as pets,
love being petted,
and, mine is too young to,
but are supposed to be able to talk.

the grossest thing is
their great squirting ablilities,
but this can be overcome with adding a pelleted diet. (see my other posting under nectar)
