Don't worry about her teaching your grey to pluck. We took in a plucking TAG (with aspergillosis) and neither of our other greys learned to pluck from her. If you do keep Indie, definitely take her to an avian vet for a full work-up. There are a number of things that can cause a bird to pluck.

Good luck!

:Greetings, everyone! I'm the mom/compadre/veggie-wench to Holly Berry, the beautiful & amazingly smart 15-mo-old CAG. Occasionally we have a weekend visitor, Indie the 3-yr-old CAG. Indie is a nervous plucker and even though she pulls some chest feathers while she's here, the damage is FAR worse when left with anyone else. She's just a tiny little thing compared to Holly (who's quite a hoss & may well be a male for all we know). Indie's feather destruction in the past was on her legs, at present those have grown in and she's got a bald patch on her breast (revealing a very sharp and somewhat abraded keelbone). The dime-sized bald patch is now the size of a quarter, thanks to a neurotic episode at bedtime the other night. She seems to like Holly, although Holly's affections for Indie stopped a couple days into the visit, when Holly realized Indie wasn't gone yet. ;-) Indie's people have taken very good care of her, offered her daily showers and lots of fresh organic veggies and grains, etc. She loves her Daddy, does NOT love her Mommy, and there is a baby on the way, the couple's first, and there's a little concern over jealousy. Indie is the only bird (only animal) in the home.

:We've got some indication that we may be asked to keep Indie, and it's something we're very carefully considering so we're prepared and don't make a hasty decision. My concern is that Indie will teach our Holly to pluck. Holly is very nearly perfectly feathered & really well-adjusted and fearless and it would break my heart to see my two grey babies doing that to themselves. Indie's people pick her up tonight, otherwise if she were mine I'd try the entire gamut of ideas to see if we could put a halt to her feather plucking (including taking her to Holly's vet for a check up). It's been an interesting weekend with her, to say the least!

:Anyone's thoughts or suggestions, ideas or comments?

:Joy & Holly & Indie
