Protein is easy to provide - just add cooked beans or quinoa to the diet. Quinoa is great because it is small enough to easily mix into other foods and it sprouts overnight if you prefer to feed it sprouted.
My conure enjoys eating meat sometimes - usually chicken, or his favorite, steak (well cooked).
