Why do you think the new bird is a female? Has she laid eggs? Just curious, there is no way to tell for sure, without testing (which most people don't do for finches) or unless you have a proven pair. Do you know the first bird is a male?
It sounds to me like they both "may" be males. Unless you want them to breed it wouldn't really matter. Societies get along well with everybody.
