Not exactly out of the question, but the finch will live a less happy life, and ya, will die earlier and such. Which stinks because I had two orange cheeked finches, (rare) and one passed away. Can't seem to find another one, and because there a waxbill people say it probably won't accept a new partner.
I also recommend the zebra's there awseome birds, when I had them(Had a little incedent with my mom's pledge, mom felt very guilty, dad felt guilty because he blamed it on me...I probably was around 8 or so.
