Finches are social birds. I'd recommend a zebra finch couple, since two of the same sex probably won't get along well! The female finches will chirp, and the males have a nice song. At night, just before bedtime, zebbies have a "soft" chirp as they prepare for sleep!

I'd also recommend getting a pair from a finch breeder in your area, rather than a pet store. It's more economical and the finches will be healthier.

Let us know when you get your birds, and we want to see pictures of them!


:I am new to finches, raised and took care of the parrots only.
:What would be the best type of finch to start with as a pet, not for breeding? Which less expensive ones are more vocal? Should I start with the two of them or one is OK?
