One of my zebbie females did that to her mate. He did look pitiful with a plucked head! She seems to have stopped now (since she's older and hasn't lain eggs for several months). My only suggestion would be to get her some nesting material. Maybe she'll quit plucking him.
I would not advise separating them, since they are highly social birds and enjoy each other's company. Isn't that "contact sitting" cute!!
:Thanks for the welcome.... I have two Zebra Finches. But I noticed today when I got home from work that the female seems to have plucked the feathers off the neck of the male. Is this mating ritual, or do I have a problem. The male seems no worse for wear, and I don't understand it as they usually sit snuggled together on the perch chirping?
