Rouen ducks in winter

I have 6 rouen ducks- 4 ducks and 2 drakes. They are full grown and in good wieght, and facing their first winter. They are free range. I currently have them in thier coop- which is 4x8, my concern is that there are openings along the top for ventalation, but I am worried that they will be cold in the winter- I am going to move them into my barn soon, that is insulated and wind proof. Is straw or hay better than shavings for warmth??? They get quite upset when they are not allowed to roam the property, but I have been leaving them in more and more in fear they are cold--should I let them out if they want out??? I live in Ontario, where we get quite and bit of snow, and it is cold- extreme 20 below (not very often, but does happen!!) They have free access to food and I have a deicer in the water- any more suggestions?
