We have mourning doves living in our stand of 50 Norway spruce trees. We have one cat, and keep him outdoors in the day and in the garage at night. (He is neutered.) We just "saved" two stray kittens from dehydration (now indoors) and need to decide what to do with them, as they have grown dramatically. We'd like to spay them and make them outdoor cats, but we're worried that our mourning doves might be killed by having three cats in the area. Our other alternative is to take the kittens to the local animal shelter to be adopted. What do you "experts" advise? We don't want to lose the beautiful sounds of the mourning doves. We have lots of woods and field around here, too, but the doves like the Norway spruces, which are in a long line, for a wind break. There are plenty of mice for cats around here, but our adults cat has killed a few smaller birds anyway--maybe two or three each summer, that we know of. We haven't found any dead mourning doves, and we've had the adult cat for several years. Thanks for any info, suggestions or ideas.
