First off, a good way to start to "calm" a conure is to just spend ten minutes a day sitting in front of the cage quietly talking or even reading to the bird. This way it will know you aren't going to attack it. After a few days of this, even the most stubborn birds normally try to get closer to you because they are curious. This is the time to start to give treats....if the bird comes closer to you and is quiet, then give it a peanut ( from the shell, NO SALT OR FLAVORINGS! conures seem to LOVE peanuts). After the bird takes food from your hand willingly and gently (without freaking out and biting you in the process), start to let it out more often with you and allow it to climb on your lap but keep it below eye level (this way it'll know who's boss). Once the bird has stopped acting aggressively to you, you can begin simple training ("up" "down" etc).
