It depends on the cat's and the conure's personalities. While most cats like to hunt, they are also very cautious. A conure will not be afraid of the cat unless it previously had a bad experience with cats - they are not naturally afraid of cats.
Many cats, as soon as they realize the conure isn't afraid of them, will lose interest. Cats don't want to bother a bird that will stand up to them.
Something that helps is to allow the conure to nip the cat on the nose (while holding the cat, of course). If the cat still shows interest, you can use a misting bottle and spray the cat when it comes too close.
I have a little greencheek conure, who I got when our cat was six years old. They get along just fine; kitty was a bit interested at first, but they quickly got used to each other and just ignore each other totally. Many people have cats and parrots that get along and it doesn't seem to be a problem most of the time. However, you should never let them play together or be near each other unsupervised if they are loose.
