The screaming when the phone rings or microwave beeps is probably his attempt to compete for your attention. He's probably learned that you get up and leave to get the phone when it rings. There's really not much I can think of to stop the screaming. If you are expecting a phone call or if you hear it ring but he hasn't screamed yet, try giving him a treat or toy to distract him; obviously, don't do this if he IS screaming since it would reward the screaming.
As for the screaming when you get home, what I've found to be best is to try ignoring it for a few minutes. If he won't quiet down, then go over to him, without looking directly at him or talking to him. He will probably quiet down when you come over and as soon as he's quieted down, then greet him and let him out.
