Greencheeks are usually very sweet birds. If he hasn't been getting much attention, or if gets teased or poked at in the store, it may take some time to gain his trust. Until he trusts you, he may bite in self defense.
They can scream, but are usually quiet birds - much quieter than most conures.
What type of cage do you have? Most cages sold for birds, with the exception of ones sold only as house decoration, and ones made from galvanized wire mesh, are safe.
