Peaches noramly has very clean feathers, when
this condition is active ( which is about every
two to three mths) she has very dark matted
areas near here skin. The feathers are stuck
together. So what I see is a thick black coating
on here feathers near the base of pin feathers
mostly in the chest and leg areas. She does get
a bath every few days and enjoys this. It seams
that it happens when is has started to molt. Her
pin feathers come in very thick, not sure if it's
realted or not.I do give her vitamin drops in her
water but with no seen results at this point. She
eats mainly pellet food , with
about 20% seed and of course alot of table food
that we eat as well.I do read about birdhealth and
want her to be feed and clean and do what ever I
canto make her happy! Her home before us was not
what I would call a good one. As I told you she
was not being feed well and the baths well that
was terrible for her. As well she had a small cage
with so many home made toys in it that she could
hardly move about. When she came to us she was
with-drawn and passed back and forth. She also
screamed after being with us for afew days.
Always she has been friendly and likes to be held
and loved. When she has this skin thing happening
she tends to scream more and be a bit bitey. One
odd thing I have noticed ...we have had her for a
year and a half and when she molts... which was on
ly the once , she never lost here main feather on
her wings like our other bird does. Her previous
owner clipped her and it's still clipped where she
did it. I dont'clip my birds feeling That they
interact with us better if they can move around
on there own.
