Hello, Congratulations on your new cockatoo, Kasper :) I am a cockatoo owner myself, Tilly (we THINK) a female who is 4 years old. We got her as a weened baby from a breeder and we hand fed her from there. I don't know alot, only what I've read about and talked to bird owners and breeders about and experienced myself. We've not experienced any of what you explain. However, our breeder was so helpful with us as to the do's and don'ts of being a "too owner" It sounds like your bird is bonding with you, sees you as his "mate" and is jelous of your husband, wanting to run him off. If this is the case, he could also turn on your children and bite them if he sees you giving affection to your children, or if he sees any kind of communication between you and them that makes him jelous. That was one of the things we were warned about, that toos can very easily become this way..."a one person bird". We were told to make sure she was handled pretty much equally by everyone, and to have strangers handle her, have the kids handle her, etc. And, that if she seemed to bond with one of us a little more, don't let that happen. So...my bird seems that she could bond with me more than my hubby, so i actually have had to back off and not cuddle her when i would love to. But, that's with having her from a baby. You have started where the damage has already been done. I wonder if he had this problem with his previous owner...my bet is that he did. Unfortunately, the only advice i can give you is to read all that you can about cockatoo behavior. I've also been told there are some very good behaviorists out there that can help. If you can't find out by doing a search, let me know and i can ask our bird breeder who she would recommend. They may be able to help over the phone, or online too. Good luck...don't give up though, i'm sure harder problems than this have been worked out :) God bless,

:Hi, i am new to owning a previously owned cockatoo. We were told he is about 4 years old, no more than 5. The 1st night he took to me and my husband instantly, but later that night he bit my husband quite bad (totally unprovoked) he is wonderful with me, more than I ever expected - I can pet him, love him, pretty much do whatever I want to him and he laps it up. He is great in his cage with the kids and my hubby, they can touch his feet and pet his head, but if he is out of the cage he attacks anyone else. We have not let the kids around him when he is out of the cage because our experience has been so far, that if my hubby comes in the room, or is in the room and I let Kasper out of his cage he screams at the top of his lungs at my hubby and often runs after him to bite him (this is the only time I feel a little unsure of how he will react to me - when it is just him and me you would think I hand raised him myself) he is totally comfortable with me. I am glad he will let everyone else come and see him in his cage but my dream would be to one day have him out with all of us, even if he only wants to be on me that is ok, I would just be happy if he would not outright attack everyone else when he is out of his cage! Any advice, I am sooooo sorry this is long but I wanted to paint a decent picture of what is going on! Thanks in advance!!! By the way, we have only had him 2 weeks today!
