Honestly, A too is not a good bird for a beginner, nor is it a condo/apt type bird unless you have VERY understanding neighbors. Toos scream extremely loud, several times per day. They are also quite demanding. I think you should take a look around the website at www.mytoos.com and you can hear what a cockatoo sounds like along with lots of useful info. Some people do not like the site, but it does tell you alot about what to expect.

I think a good bird for a beginner is a cockatiel. They are smaller, not nearly as demanding, and their calls are no where near as loud as a too. They are also smaller and can usually learn to talk a bit. Tiels are wonderful birds. Please do buy from a breeder and get a handfed, socialized baby.. or even look for a unwanted tiel that you can adopt. These make the best pets vs. pet store birds in my opinion. Good luck!
