I am beside myself with the paniced reactions I've recieved even after my last post regarding the care of my Tiel family. I'm not 12 and again, although green I've done this before and know some good basics. I am not such a bird nut; and know enough that I am not going to rush my Tiel to an expensive vet visit only for the Veternarian to tell me "ya, dont let her breed anymore and boost up her calcium level." I am making efforts not to allow them to breed anymore as stated previously (seperating the parents).
Unfortunately however, no one noticed that question and my concern. instead focusing in on the immeadiate health of the birds which again..they are fine and have been fine outside the chicks being what I thought was underwieght (not skin and bone). Hence rhowards reply that may with in reason be normal. (Thank you for sharing your time tested experience rhoward).
I have tested the chicks for dehydration like Remy suggested and according to your instructions skin is in good shape and doesn't "tent up".
I removed the chicks from the parents at 3 weeks maybe a bit older. (waited until pin feathers were very apparent)I've kept them in a homemade warmer box made of a styrofoam ice chest and small light bulb complete with thermomitor. And again I'll say, there is no sour crop happening here. I know the symptons and the causes. But I will check out the websites that were posted.
Well that should answer some of the questions or concerns. I would also like to say that outside the females brush with egg binding are healthy and are not showing any signs of sickness or weakness and there is not need to rush them an Avian Vet.
If anyone cares to look again at the post "Hand raising/Parent raising" I had some issues with taking the chicks and seperating the parents. Maybe Rhoward or Remy should takel this one. And thanks again for being knowlegeble without jumping to conclusions.
