Thanks ellen,

I have been waiting for one of you regulars to come along. I panicked for Justan's birds (rightfully or not) and I am sorry if I came off as offensive (which I can understand) I was just sort of scared for his birds and wanted to help.

I should have been more diplomatic but got sort of caught up as I knew I was the only one responding tonight.

I do have a hen that was egg bound and by ogin g to the avian vet who my sister-in-law (who is a veteranarian) recommended.

I learned a lot about eggbound hens and know that it can become an emergancy situation so fast your runnin gout in your slippers in the middle of the night.

My hen has had hormone shots and now calcium supplements. Incidently she Never recommended iceberg lettuce as a cure.

So I am particularily sensitive to that issue as even on this board I can not find answers to my hens chronic egg laying. So I reacted to Justan's hen being egg bound like I would my own.

I watched my hen breathe hard all night until I got her to a vet in at 6:00 am.

Ruth

:Oh dear. You better get some help for those babies right away. I'm a little confused. Have you been handfeeding for 3 weeks? And does that make them about 5 weeks? I don't think the parents will start feeding them if they've been away so long but a vet can give you an answer better than me. Justan, the only way those babies are going to make it is if you take them to the vets right away. I'm really sorry but, just as you have done the right thing by finding a home for the parents when Ron Howard's wife comes to town, you need to do the right thing for those poor, helpless babies. You can't spend time looking for answers; their lives are at stake (and very fragile). From your post about letting the parents go free, it sounds like you want what's best for your birds but haven't thought things through thoroughly. That's why Ruth is trying to help you see that you can't take care of this problem without the immediate care of an AVIAN vet. I know you don't want those babies to die so please post here tomorrow and tell us you took them to the vets. PLEASE! We really do care.
:Ellen
