You actually sound like you made an informed decision on finding a new home for your birds. Admitting you did not have the time was a very brave thing to do. Most people get all tied up with their own ego and won't let go of the animal/bird because it will feel like a defeat to them. The animal/bird ends up suffering for it.
You are a very good person. Yes, volunteering at a rescue or shelter would be a wonderful thing to do. :) Lori
