When I go to a site that hasn't had anyone talking or answering questions in the last two weeks, I usually don't check back there again.

Chat can be very good -- it brings up subjects that other owners may not have considered or had any experience with (yet). And maybe they will remember what they read when they DO need it.

So you see, you're performing a public service.
