Pied...hm, not sure where the term originally comes from, some variant on parti-coloured, I think.
Basically, it means having white patches on the body where they normally do not.

Sometimes you will see birds that look almost entirely normally marked, but they may have some white feathers on the back of their head and neck, or perhaps a stray white/light feather on their saddle or elsewhere. These are not usually true Pied birds, but are Split for Pied, and properly paired up, will produce Pied birds. The ideal is for 50% (or more) white markings with whatever base colour (Cinnamon Pied, Normal Pearl Pied, for example). Some birds are so extremly Pied (also called Heavily Pied) that they appear almost entirely white, with dark eyes, and are sometimes mistaken for Lutinos.
