::My chickens waste tons of feed. Am I just feeding them too much? Are there feeders that catch feed that would otherwise be knocked out onto the ground?

:Most chickens will scratch the food up off the ground unless you are feeding enough that they have no need to. So it may be that you are feeding too much :) What type of feeding situation do you have? Are the chickens housed or are the in a yard? The more confined you keep them, the more that will be wasted as the feed is more likely to land in feces, which most birds will then ignore. When we had ours, we kept them out, and just threw the feed on the ground. But then they also ate a significant amount of bugs also!

Thanks. I think I will try tossing it on the ground. The food is in the house but they can go out whenever they want for seeds and bugs.
