:Yesterday 5 chickens and a rooster showed up across the street from my house. We have woods across my street....a dead end. I feel awful for them! Obviously the wandered out of their home and don't know how to get back. Is there somebody I can call to at least have them picked up so they can be placed in a proper environment? I am on Long Island.

Try calling your local animal control and see what they say. It might be that they can help, or they might not do anything. Failing that, you might wander about asking neighbors. Chickens don't tend to wander overly far from home unless something chased them. It may be that they are just ranging for food!
