I'm definitely going to call the vet as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I don't think they will be available until Monday. I called their emergency number, got an answering service who then gave me another number for avian emergencies. This number was for the Univ of Pennsylvania Vet Hospital. I called that number and was referred to another number. I called that number and got a constant busy signal. I'm not very pleased with my vet's lack of emergency care. I probably need to find a new avian vet.
Right now my bird is in her cage with our other parakeet. Unfortunately, we don't really have any way to separate them. She's in our bedroom, which is very warm, and her cage is covered. I want to check in on her, but I don't want to startle her awake.
It's possible that some medicine got in her eye, even though we're being careful. The Nystatin (anti-fungal) is VERY sticky. It gets on her face around her beak and drives her crazy. We try to gently wipe it away, but it's tenacious stuff. I think she might be rubbing the eye raw trying to wipe the medicine off of her face.
I've been worrying myself sick over my bird (her name is Monk, even though she's not a Monk Parakeet). I'll let you know how everything goes.
