My female budgie (approx. 8 months old) has been sick. She was diagnosed with a staph infection and a yeast infection in her crop. We are giving her Baytril for the staph and nystatin for the yeast. We are giving these medications by beak.
Today, she's been sleeping more than usual. She's been eating and is sometimes active, but she is sleeping more than normal. She turns her head and puts her beak in her back feathers. Her eyes aren't quite closed when she does this.
She has been wiping her face a lot since we started giving her the medication. One of her eyes seems to be bothering her a bit. She blinks a lot and the area around the eye is a bit red and bare.
I've been trying to contact my avian vet, but I can't reach anyone. I'm worried that she's going to die before I can get help for her.
Should I be as concerned about the sleeping/eye problem as much as I am?
