We had a tame parakeet when I was a kid. He was terrified of us too. When we first brought him home he didn't eat for 4 days. We worked with him every day. Patience is the answer here. Work with her every day at the same time, it is a good sign that she will take millet out of your hand. I would get her out of the cage in a room she doesn't ever go in (neutral territory) and see if that helps. Alot of times once the bird is away from her territory that will help. conniem
:Hi there. I have a female parakeet who has never been tamed. I am guessing she is about 2-3 years old. I would like to tame her, but I am wondering if it is too late. She is a very happy bird, but just petrified of us! She will take millet from my hand, very gingerly, but I must admit I have not been very strict about doing it every day. If I do do it every day, how soon would I expect some progress. Are we talking months or days or weeks, or what? Just to give me a good guideline, so I don't give up! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
